Yes, it’s Friday and that means it’s Shortcuts! Today we’ll look at Blackberry home screen shortcuts.
By default, Blackberry lets you dial directly from the home screen. That means that when you start typing a name, the phone app pops up with the number ready to dial.
While that is cool, there are 15 shortcuts available on the home screen if you change the way you do things by one keystroke. I’m suggesting that you turn ‘dial from home screen’ off and take advantage of the shortcuts I’ve listed below.
When you can’t dial from the home screen, to dial someone by name, you first press the green phone key, then you type in the name. One extra keystroke….the phone button.
Dial from Home Screen must be turned off for the shortcuts to work; press Phone>Options>Dial From Home Screen>No. Then save it.
Now, the shortcuts. From the home screen, press the letter and watch what happens:
W- carrier browser (wap)
A- address book
D- note pad
C- compose a mail
V- saved messages
B- blackberry browser
For me it’s way easier to press the letter than trying to find the icon and pressing the trackball. And now you can hide those icons for the shortcuts above, leaving plenty of room for those icons you really need.
Give it a try. Once you get used to it, I think you’ll love it.
But if you don’t love it, change it back: press the green phone button, then press the menu key and scroll down to options. Under general options, change ‘dial from home screen’ to yes. You’ll be able to dial from the home screen and pressing b won’t bring up your browser.
Ok? Ok! Let me know if you love this!
